BIBLICAL ARCHEOLOGY
Tom Gould
As we engage in evangelism and apologetics, we encounter common skeptical themes.
The Bible is fictional with no evidence validating its historical record.
Biblical figures like Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, and Jesus are myths and legends like King Arthur or Santa Claus.
The Bible can’t be “proven” scientifically or historically – and is therefore mythological.
And yet there is new scientific evidence for historical Biblical people, places, and events that have been discovered by archeology over the last 50 years.
Some Biblical Archeology Wisdom:
“The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence”. If archeology has no current evidence of a person, place or event in the Bible, it does not make one section of scripture false. The evidence is just “yet” to evolve.
“It may be categorically stated that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a Biblical reference.” In other words, archaeology has never invalidated the Bible’s account of history.
Archaeological discoveries can confirm but cannot “prove” the Bible. Biblical truth comes by faith, but confirmation of scriptural validity by archeology removes a barrier to faith
The Biblical Archeology videos and presentations on this website show the breadth and depth of scientific findings that confirm scriptural validity. If validity is established, then a major barrier to faith is removed. Archeology does not “prove” Biblical truth, but validation of people, places and events opens the door to truth through faith.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr. Thomas “Tom” Gould is a senior reservoir engineering consultant and board member at International Reservoir Technologies, Inc. Dr. Gould has over 50 years of experience in the upstream petroleum industry and is a world-class expert in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) with several patents under his belt. He recently specialized in EOR miscible floods, thermal recovery, shale oil production, CO2 sequestration, and geothermal energy. Dr. Gould has received the Cedric K. Ferguson Medal from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and is a Distinguished Member of SPE.
Please note that Dr. Gould is not an archeologist nor is he trained in either apologetics or historicity of the Bible. However, he is a qualified researcher and the Biblical Archeology compendium of presentations is mostly a literature survey. During its construction there has been a need to “connect the dots” for scriptural relevancy and in some cases sort through conflicting opinions of experts.
The compendium of presentations was motivated by the Spirit after Dr. Gould ’s first trip to Israel in Oct-2015. The compendium has been under construction now almost 10 years as of Apr-2025 and continues to be updated with new archeological technical papers and verified discoveries.
