Owen is going to Japan!
Hello Family and Friends,
Thank you all so much for what you have done in my life that has led me to the point of writing this letter. I am so grateful for all you have done! I am currently finishing my freshman year at the Colorado School of Mines in Mechanical Engineering. It has been an amazing year, full of opportunities to grow my faith and get closer to the Lord and there have been so many opportunities to share the good news of Jesus that gives me my hope and joy. Now, I have an opportunity to continue to share the Gospel, this time in Tokyo, Japan. This is an incredibly unexpected experience, and I can’t believe I get the opportunity to go evangelize in Japan. Thankfully, the Lord has worked a lot in my life this year and really developed and grown my faith, and has helped me put Christ at the center of my life.
Throughout this year as well, the Lord has really been teaching me about the nations and developed my heart for them. One verse that the Lord has used in this process is: Matthew 9:37- “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” This shows the biblical need for there to be people to go out and be workers to help lead others to Christ. This trip is a great opportunity to do that and be a worker in the harvest field, and I look forward to being one of those workers. Another verse that the Lord has placed on my heart is the great commission: Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” This verse highlights our calling to go to the nations and preach the gospel, and I am excited to act in obedience to this verse and see what God has in store for me as I go out.
Currently, only about 1.5% of Japan follows Jesus, and very few people there have heard of who he is and why they need him in their lives. A statistic like this characterizes wonderfully how plentiful the harvest is and how great the need for workers is in a place like Japan, just as Jesus said in Matthew 9:37. It also is a nation desperate for good churches and disciple making to fulfill God’s vision for the Christian body, and to better equip the people there to continue sharing the gospel and continue to fulfill Jesus' plan outlined in Matthew 28.
I believe that this will be a great opportunity for me to grow in my own faith as well as an opportunity for the Lord to work in these people's hearts and bring more people into the eternal kingdom of Christ, and for that I am incredibly grateful.
Finally, I am requesting support for this trip. Firstly, I need a lot of prayer. I need prayer for my heart going into this that I would do my best to glorify God and honor Christ. I also need prayer to be bold and remain encouraged throughout the trip. Finally prayer for the people I interact with that their hearts would be softened and that they could see the truth. I also need to raise $4300 dollars by mid June, so please consider praying to join me on this trip and support me. If you do decide to support, please click the button below.
Every prayer and gift is an investment, not only in my life, but in the lives of countless people in Tokyo and beyond.
